Track: Web 2.0 Fundamentals
Date: Monday, April 16
Time: 11:15am
- 12:05pm
Location: 2008
This talk will highlight some of the laws that affect your users' content and your obligation to protect the information. For example: How much data should you collect and how long should you save it for? Should you anonymize user data?
What should you do when the government comes asking for it? What's the proper response to a civil subpoena? Can you use private information for advertising purposes? Share it with affiliates? Most importantly, how can you design your system to build privacy protections in from the ground-up?
The talk will make the business case for why protecting user privacy should make the top of your to-do list when building any system that relies on user-generated content.
